Postcard ‘Tender carrying the American mails’

Tender carrying American mailCarrying the mail across the Atlantic was a prestigious business for shipping lines. Awarded a contract by Royal Mail, they could use the prefix ‘Royal Mail Ship’ or RMS in the name of the ship.

On its maiden voyage the RMS Titanic collected 1385 bags of mail at Queenstown destined for America.
